Kalyssa

Voice, Piano, Ukulele, Songwriting

Hi! I’m Kalyssa, and I love helping students connect with music in a way that feels fun and inspiring. I’ve been teaching and gigging for over 7 years, and I have a huge passion for creative expression. I teach piano, voice, ukulele, and songwriting. But more than that, I teach confidence. I teach curiosity and creativity. I teach kids (and adults) that it’s okay to try, mess up, and try again.

One of the coolest teaching moments I've had was watching a student perform an open mic for the first time. She was in her 80s and had never performed in front of people. She walked on stage nervous, but excited. Watching her finish with the biggest smile was one of the most rewarding moments ever. It reminded me that age is just a number!

My teaching style is upbeat, patient, and encouraging. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all lessons. Every student is different, so I shape lessons around what you enjoy and what keeps you motivated. My number one goal is simple: I want my students to actually love what they’re doing. To enjoy every step of the process. Whether it’s the challenge, the confidence they gain, or the joy of creating something of their own.

One of my favorite success stories was a 10th-grade piano student I had. He was an incredible classical player. He practiced every day for about an hour. After seeing his hard work and dedication, I encouraged him to try writing his own music. It was awkward at first, but he stuck with it. Months later, he was writing some of the most beautiful piano pieces I’ve ever heard, and loving every second of it. That made me so proud, and that’s what I want for all my students.

I don’t want my students to just learn scales or theory (though we’ll do that too). I want my students to actually love what they do. Whether you’re brand new or ready to take your skills further, I’m here to guide and encourage you every step of the way.
